COOTAMUNDRA
Client group:
The work is mainly as in the outpatient unit with a broad range of musculoskeletal conditions including many patients with musculoskeletal, sporting and farming injuries. Occasionally respiratory or rehabilitation management is required. There is an inpatient caseload which includes post surgical, respiratory, mobility and pre-and post-natal women (Obstetrics, Woman’s Health) which is performed for about 2 hours once daily.
Duties:
Assessment and treatment of a wide variety of outpatients with musculoskeletal problems and limited inpatients as stated above. In addition, there are frequent opportunities for plastering, and running an elderly exercise class. There is close liaison with the radiographer, occupational therapist and day care officers.
The Cootamundra rotation is mostly outpatient focussed. The outpatient department at Cootamundra includes a broad range of acute and chronic musculoskeletal conditions, post-operative orthopaedic management, fracture management (including casting), rehabilitation and falls prevention. You will also get the opportunity to be involved in group education programmes including antenatal, cardiac rehab, pulmonary rehab and fall prevention.
In addition to the outpatient load, you will spend up to two hours on the general ward. This mainly includes mobility assessments and occasional chest physiotherapy treatment for a variety of medical presentations e.g. respiratory, stroke, maternity, falls. An important component of the inpatient work is discharge planning and liaison with the multi-disciplinary team.
Cootamundra is a fantastic rotation to get a wide variety of musculoskeletal experience in a supportive and friendly environment.
